Style takes many forms. In this class, we are going to celebrate as many of these forms as we can, specifically with regards to writing. To get there, we’ll begin by examining stylish writing—that is, writing that is effective and engaging in its rhetorical context. Surveying a variety of writing strategies, you will learn to identify, analyze, and evaluate established and popular approaches to style across different forms of writing. In doing so, you will improve your understanding of style’s relationship to genre and audience. You will demonstrate this understanding by composing original pieces of writing in multiple genres, which you will revise based on your own stylistic analysis, as well as feedback from your peers and instructor. As you compose and revise your writing, you will creatively select and apply style strategies in order to persuasively engage your intended audience.
